When leaving their nest (generally in mid August through September), first year #puffin use stars to navigate to sea. Sometimes they mistake lights of the city as navigational marks and fly to dry land. The #PuffinPatrol, operating out of #BayBulls area, consist of volunteers who, during late evening hours, go in search of the puffins wandering the communities on land, capture them, place them in crates, and, in the morning hours, release them to sea.
